ESSAY CONTEST REQUIREMENTS (Scroll Down for Art Contest Requirements)

1. All participants must be children of members and/or processing members of the Nation of Islam.

2. Participants for the Essay Contest must be in grades 7th-12th.

3. Participants must complete an application before the essay is submitted. The application is part of the requirement and must be done.

4. Participants are required to write a 500 Word Essay titled: "The Pillars of Islam in the Keeping of the Faith." The Essay must be typed, double spaced, and include 1” margins.

5. The Essay will be judged according to:

    a. Material organization (adherence to the topic).
    b. Vocabulary and style.
    c. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and neatness.
    d. Following the contest rules.

6. The submission deadline is February 8, 2013. All Essays submitted become the property of the Nation of Islam and will not be returned. Make sure to retain a copy.

8. The First place award is $250 and work will be published in the Final Call Newspaper. Second place award is $200. Third place award is $175.

ART CONTEST REQUIREMENTS

1. All participants must be children of members and/or processing members of the Nation of Islam.

2. Participants must be pre-school to 6th grade.

3. The Art should be a drawing that shows the artist's idea of “The Pillar of Islam in the Keeping of the Faith”. It should be submitted on 8.5"X11" paper. Crayons, markers, colored pencils, pens, paint and decorations are allowed. (Hint: Other additions are accepted. You can make the piece what you will on the paper.

4. The art will be judged based on:
    a. Adherence to the topic
    b. Originality and Creativity
    c. Neatness
    d. Adherence to contest rules.

5. The submission deadline date is February 8, 2013. All submissions become the property of the Nation of Islam. Make sure you retain a copy for yourself.
